I have an 80GB backwards compatible PS3. And I still have my good old PS2 in perfect condition. I never played PS2 game since I laid my hands on PS3. Just get any PS3.

I asked myself the very same question when I bought mine.

When I investigated this online I found that the 60GB PlayStation model is considered to be the best model released to date.
You get power and features that are no longer available due to the high production cost. You also get the best backward compatibility available today.

The 60GB version has a real PS2 chip in the machine for PS2 games to work flawless.

SONY actually lose money for every console they sell and make money on the games instead. So they had to cut costs and started to release models that were cheaper to produce than the 60GB model.

I bought a used Playstation 60GB and I am very happy with it.

I recommend you try to get hold of a PlayStation 60GB on Ebay, try to find one in your area so you can pick it up yourself, no worries about shipping damage that way.

This way you get the best Playstation 3 version released to date and you should be able to get a fare price as well.

If you want to be completely safe and don´t care about backwards compatibility I´d recommend you buy a brand new 80GB, just make sure you compare prices before you buy. You can save a lot of money doing some research before you buy.

Good luck

That model is the best one, however, yes there are drawbacks. For starters, everytime I hear that someone gets the "yellow light of death" as they call it, that is the model they get it on. Also, if you run into problems with it, and need to send it in for repairs, there's a greater chance they won't be able to repair it and have to replace it with a current model. Also, you don't know who had it before you, and how it was treated. It's just way too risky. My advice is to buy something very current... unless you can't live without the PS2 compatibility (all models will play PS1 games)
