Should I buy a 60GB Playstation 3, that has backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games?
I’m looking around on the Internet for Playstation 3, this model because they are no longer in production. Is it really worth buying, or falling behind, or the problems they encountered in purchasing this model. Any help and answers would be greatly appreciated.
i know money can be limited but i would buy the newest ps3 possible, just to ensure you won’t end up with an older model with problems
i would, i have had mine since day one … and still no problems to speak of. i love playing ps2 games on it . its the best model thats ever been released… though you should wait 2 months the rumored slim model has rumored backwards compatibility … but its all a rumor
Despite the supposed under 1% failure rate, that, as well as the 20gb model are the most faulty and will eventually break down like my 60gb did a few months ago. Current units are built differently and are much more reliable.
I would only buy it if I was truly desperate to play PS2 games on a PS3. Its the best PS3 when it comes to features, but is a power hog and runs hotter than new ones. Not to mention the backward compatibility isn’t perfect.
Buying used electronic products is not a wise idea and being the PS3 60GB model released in 2006, you have to assume that it’s almost 3 years old and possibly has been played to death !
I recommend getting a new PS3 if at all possible but I understand a lot of people are wanting backwards compatibility in their PS3 and for some odd reason Sony is ignoring this !
No, why r u buying a ps3 just to play ps2 games??? wtf that defeats the purpose of the ps3
u should at least get an 80 gb, memory goes real fast on ps3′s, i have an 80gb and am now down to only 1gb of free space…what ive got is 25 ps2 games and 2 psx games. i havent come across one ps2 game that didnt work on mine
Yes if you get a good deal, the Playstation 3 60 gb is a nice system, but don’t over pay for a used machine.
I suggest you just buy a new one. you have no warranty on any used electronics and you might be paying more than the newer version, not to mention the risk of getting a defective one. besides, you won’t go back playing those crappy graphics games from ps2 once you experienced the HD graphics of PS3.
Well it’s the best model but it does take up a lot of energy. The old 80gb PS3 backwards compatabilty is becoming better.
buy it now from ebay with the old backwarda compatabile 80gb ps3 all are new in box

I’ve had a 60GB PS3 since launch day, and it has worked perfectly, as well as BC, you also have 4 USB ports and a card reader.
However, when you buy a second hand PS3, you don’t really know what you’re getting, the previous owner may not have looked after it properly, it may have been refurbished more than once, and even second hand 60GB PS3′s are quite expensive, specially since you don’t know if it will have problems or not.
The PS3 is the next generation of gaming, it’s worth having in it’s own right, and I think it’s better value for money, to keep your PS2 for PS2 games, and buy a brand new PS3 for PS3 games:)
Rather you go for new
I had one problem with my ps3. The hard drive. But I got my new ps3 for free. So, just take care of your ps3 and you’re good.
That model is the best one, however, yes there are drawbacks. For starters, everytime I hear that someone gets the “yellow light of death” as they call it, that is the model they get it on. Also, if you run into problems with it, and need to send it in for repairs, there’s a greater chance they won’t be able to repair it and have to replace it with a current model. Also, you don’t know who had it before you, and how it was treated. It’s just way too risky. My advice is to buy something very current… unless you can’t live without the PS2 compatibility (all models will play PS1 games)
yeah it is worth it i got one for 80gb and it really helps because you ain’t gotta worry about ps2 or ps1 you just buy em
ONLY get it if you plan to play PS2 games on it, otherwise just get a new 80GB PS3.
just ask your self, do you really wanna play those cr@ppy games again?>
only 90% of the games worrk on the 60gb model and they look fuzzier so just get a 80gb ps3,.
I asked myself the very same question when I bought mine.
When I investigated this online I found that the 60GB PlayStation model is considered to be the best model released to date.
You get power and features that are no longer available due to the high production cost. You also get the best backward compatibility available today.
The 60GB version has a real PS2 chip in the machine for PS2 games to work flawless.
SONY actually lose money for every console they sell and make money on the games instead. So they had to cut costs and started to release models that were cheaper to produce than the 60GB model.
I bought a used Playstation 60GB and I am very happy with it.
I recommend you try to get hold of a PlayStation 60GB on Ebay, try to find one in your area so you can pick it up yourself, no worries about shipping damage that way.
This way you get the best Playstation 3 version released to date and you should be able to get a fare price as well.
If you want to be completely safe and don´t care about backwards compatibility I´d recommend you buy a brand new 80GB, just make sure you compare prices before you buy. You can save a lot of money doing some research before you buy.
Good luck
I have an 80GB backwards compatible PS3. And I still have my good old PS2 in perfect condition. I never played PS2 game since I laid my hands on PS3. Just get any PS3.
I couldn’t agree more.
