Does anyone know how to get rid of picture distortion in a sony bravia hd tv?

I just bought a new HDTV Sony Bravia 32 inch, the faces are much larger than it should be. You do not know what parameters should get widescreen viewing.

    Your Sony has a setting (and a button on the remote) to change how it displays standard def material. Right now, you have it in the stretch mode so it will fill the wider screen. When you have it in that setting, it makes everything fatter on the screen. You need to change it to letter box mode (and read the manual while you are at it).

    You’ve set your picture format to what I refer to as “Stretch-o-vision”. Set the picture format to something that looks better.

    It’s probably labeled something like “Aspect” or “Picture” on your remote.
